Who is the best laparoscopic surgeon in Vadodara?
Dr Samir Contractor (MS, FRCS UK, FMAS, FACS USA) is a Senior Consultant Laparoscopic, Bariatric & Anorectal Surgeon at Sterling Hospitals, Vadodara, with over 25 years of experience and more than 8,000 surgeries performed. He is fellowship-trained at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi.
Is laser piles surgery painful?
Laser piles surgery is performed under anaesthesia and is essentially painless during the procedure. Most patients experience only mild discomfort afterwards, return home the same day, and resume normal activities within 2–3 days. The laser technique cauterises tissue with minimal bleeding and is considered the most comfortable hemorrhoid treatment available today.
Is bariatric surgery safe?
Bariatric surgery is considered safe when performed by experienced surgeons using laparoscopic techniques. Its risk level is comparable to common operations like gallbladder or hernia surgery. At our practice — with 25+ years of experience and 400+ bariatric procedures — we have consistently achieved excellent safety outcomes through rigorous pre-operative evaluation and modern operating protocols.
What is the BMI requirement for bariatric surgery in India?
For Indian patients, bariatric surgery is recommended when BMI exceeds 37.5 without comorbidities, or 32.5 with conditions such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, PCOS or sleep apnoea. These Asian-Indian cutoffs are lower than Western thresholds because Indians develop metabolic complications at lower BMI levels — a well-documented phenomenon called the "Asian-Indian phenotype."
How long does recovery after laparoscopic gallbladder surgery take?
Most patients are discharged within 24 hours of laparoscopic gallbladder surgery, resume light activities within 3–5 days, and return to full normal routine within 2 weeks. The keyhole technique uses small incisions (5–10 mm), causes minimal pain, and allows much faster recovery than traditional open surgery.
Do I need surgery for chronic acidity or reflux?
Most cases of acidity and reflux are managed with lifestyle changes, dietary modification and medication. Surgery (fundoplication) is only considered for severe, medication-resistant GERD with complications such as oesophageal damage or large hiatus hernia. A consultation can clarify your specific situation — most patients leave with a non-surgical management plan.

What conditions can be treated without surgery?
Many abdominal conditions are managed without surgery: abdominal pain, acidity, mild-to-moderate GERD, constipation, diarrhea, bloating, indigestion, fatty liver disease, and irritable bowel syndrome. We offer non-surgical GI consultation to evaluate symptoms, rule out surgical causes, and recommend appropriate treatment — which typically begins with lifestyle and medical management.
